I'll be in Paris for a couple of nights in July 08. Anyone have decent, cheap hotel recommendations in the city? I'm pretty content as long as the door locks.
My girlfriend and I stayed at Hotel de l'Esperance back in April and liked it. It's in a quieter part of the Latin Quarter - keep walking about 2 blocks past the end of the Rue Mouffetard market and you're there.
I always recommend the Hotel de Nevers near Republique. It has a website. Very affordable, doors that lock and choices with or without toilet in the room. Paris actually is well stocked with budget accomodations.
Try Hotel Perfect in Montmartre - doubles from €44, or Hotel Marignan in the 5th between the Pantheon and Notre Dame, from €68/night.
Lots of hotels in the Accor chain are very reasonable - particularly Ibis and Formule 1. I stayed at Ibis Chateau Landon Gare du Nord and got a great room online last summer for very cheap. Really close to Metro, RER and Eurostar stops made it very easy to get to any section of Paris quickly. And it had air conditioning - which is always good to have during summer in Paris, just in case.
I will be going to Paris with my daughter in the beginning of October. We are on a budget and want to stay in a safe, clean and inexpensive place in a safe neighborhood. We will be staying for 10 days and , though I want to see the sights, I want to experience the people and culture and THE FOOD. Special instructions for 2 women traveling alone are welcome as are any other tips.
My favorite decent, cheap hotel is Hotel du Commerce in the 5th. It is close to a police station, across the street from a laundromat, has a breakfast room for you to eat your own breakfast (not provided by the hotel). Notre Dame is a 5-10 min walk away, Metro and buses are close-by, and plenty of other places in central Paris are within walking distance.
It's been a couple of years, but we stayed at Hôtel Sévigné in the Marais. Nice place, comfortable, decent prices. You can reach them at

Justin I am there now. Havae you tried Hotwire?? Paris is accessible by metro so you can't go wrong wherever you stay.
There are some great recommendations here. Thanks for the help! I'm excited for the trip -- too bad it's so short. I'm taking an extra suitcase to bring back a big supply of Chocolate Cruesli -- man, I love that cereal!
