Cheap places to stay in Barcelona

Hi there! Headed to Barcelona in a few months and haven't booked a hotel. Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap, but great places to stay? Nothing fancy needed, just a bed and a shower (but preferably clean!) Thanks!

Cheap is a relative term so with that in mind and having had great luck with this sight in securing accommodations I recommend you peruse it. Prices are there to see and you could decide if they meet your budget. airbnb.com

Just got back from a cruise that started in Barcelona and we stayed at Hotel Atlantis for two nights. The rate was only 80 Euros a night and that included breakfast. The location is perfect with it being several blocks from The Ramblas. It is just a basic hotel but it was very clean and I did not fear for my safety. We were with several groups of cruise people and everyone agreed that it was a great choice for the money. Hope that helps!

The Hotel Atlantis sounds like a good possibility for our May visit in Barcelona where we also end a cruise. We have been to Barc previously so are fairly familiar with the city. Is the hotel quiet and do the rooms have comfortable and large beds? Our last hotel there was the noisiest room we have ever had anywhere. The rude staff was not an asset either.

I stayed at Hotel Lloret Ramblas in 2008. I considered the rates to be very reasonable. I just checked their website and they now offer free wifi and breakfast. The hotel is about a one-minute walk from the airport bus, the Metro, and the Placa Cataluna. A department store nearby had a great cafe/grocery on the lower level.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! Not sure where we've decided to stay, but once we do, I'll be sure to report back!

Check out enjoybarcelona.com. We rented a great (though tiny and simple) apartment for around the same price as some hostels. Their customer service was great and we really enjoyed the freedom of having our own apartment to call home.

Susan, Even though the hotel faces a busy street our room which also faced the street was not noisy at all. I thought the double bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was pretty big and modern. There is even a mini bar and a safe in the room. Before I booked this hotel I went on TA and really did not find one negative review. The hotel staff was pretty friendly when I asked for directions to numerous places. All in all, you really can't beat the location and the price.

Hi, Greta! Yes, please tell us your target price so we can better recommend places. For the lower end, I always suggest "hostales" or "pensiones" for, often times, very inexpensive rooms with complete bathrooms, and clean rooms, most often cheaper than hotels but with fewer frills. My favorite and oft-recommended area is "Eixample", which is just "above" the Gothic Quarter. Here, you can find well-located places, clean and basic, like Hostal Martina and Pension Plaza de Goya. I've stayed at both and can recommend them. Eixample is a less-touristy area, more residential, and safe and clean. I think you'll like it. Saludos, BarcelonaMan/MadridMan @ you-know-where!
