Cheap hotel in Paris??

Hi everyone! I have now moved on to Paris! I began by looking for cheap accommodation, and found out that is nearly impossible! I didn't know Paris was so expensive! Any advice on areas of Paris where I should focus my research? Or any recommended hotel?
I am looking for a double ensuite room with private bathroom for 50-60 euro. Hope that's possible!!

There are two Hotels de Nevers. The one in St. Germain used to be a ocnvent and is more expensive. The one at 53 Rue de Malte near Republique is the great budget choice.

WARNING for Hotel de Nevers (the one on Rue de Malte): I stayed there a year ago and everything was fine. I checked out and payed my bill. A year later they charged my credit card again (I had not returned). This was clearly an attempt at credit card fraud, esp. since my card's expiration date had changed in the year since I stayed at the hotel. The hotel never returned my emails and I had to recover the money from the mischarge through my credit card's fraud department. DO NOT STAY AT HOTEL DE NEVERS!

John beat me to it. Probably the most handy is Pt Montmartre (Rue Babinsky) which is five minute walk to metro and ten minute ride to center of city.

Bonjour Natalia! Have you checked out the hotel rates in Rick's 2010 Paris book? After a quick glance all I found were the hostels at mije.com/ for your rates. I see the Maubisson (hostel) has private showers, breakfast is included but not towels at 37 euro per person for a Db. The FAQ at the bottom of the site should answer most of your questions. Any possibility of raising your budget for Paris? What about an apartment through vacationinparis.com? I found some studios at US$125 (US$ not Euro).
Hope this helps!

A few years ago I stayed at Hotel Eden, 110 rue Blomet, 75015 Paris. Telephone: 01 48 28 13 95. Metro Vaugirard. In 2004 I paid 38 euro for a double room ensuite, used as a single. This is in the area south of the Eiffel Tower, about 20-30 min walk to rue Cler. This hotel is "very French" and seems to cater to French business people. The manager spoke a little English. There was no elevator, but the room was large and clean. The neighborhood has all you might need: produce, pastries, cafes, and a nice neighborhood park. Bus and metro service are handy. Breakfast was not included, but was inexpensive.

There is a Hotel Nevers that was a convent at one time and a poster mentioned they had stayed there for 65 euros. Not sure of the location but those people liked this hotel--said it was clean and comfortable but had no elevator.

Natalia,

For your stay in Paris, you might consider a double room in a Hostel (which will probably have two single beds). The rates are in the range of €23 per night, per person. I've found that more Hostel rooms (whether Dorms or two bed rooms) these days are being provided with ensuite facilities (of course, this isn't the case at all Hostels).

Have a look at www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels-Paris-Clichy-020024.en.htm for one example. With HI Hostels having a membership will provide preferred booking over those that don't have a membership. They have properties all over Europe (and elsewhere).

Good luck and happy travels!
