Cheap Hotel in Dusseldorf

I will be flying home from Dusseldorf on the morning of 01 July of this year and had been hoping to find accommodation in or around Dusseldorf airport the night before. Is there a major event happening that week or something? Every hotel I'm seeing is in the many-hundred-Euro-a-night range, even the smaller modest ones. I have a budget of about 60-75€ for that night. My flight from DUS is at 12 noon, so I suppose I could stay south of the city and finish my drive to the airport in the morning but I do not know much of the area. Any suggestions on keeping costs down for the final night? Thanks in advance.

You might try Hotel Monopol (www.monopolhotel.de) where 3 of us stayed several years ago in a lovely room for 80 Euros. We could walk from the train station and took a taxi to airport for about 17 Euros. Normally, city hotels all seem to be quite pricey, as in the USA. Hopefully you will get some better suggestions from other travellers. Good luck for a wonderful trip.

I just looked at their site and the cheapest room they have is 266€ per night, and it goes up to 288 and 299€. I am guessing there is a major event going on that week!

I stayed at Friends Hotel (in Sept 2008) near the train station in Dusseldorf. The hotel is approximately a 5 min walk from the train station, then a 15 minute ride to the airport. I don't recall the price but I'm sure it was in your price range. It was a very basic room. www.hotelfriends.de Happy Travels!

Unfortunately it's sold out that night (as are most others that are under 150€).

I don't know if this is the same place I stayed in 1990, but the name is the same and it seems like the right location. The price seems more reasonable (€69-€79 pP in a single), but it does say ausserhalb der Messezeiten (outside the trade show times).

Duesseldorf is part of the Ruhr Gebiet, one of the most populous areas of Germany. There are a lot of major towns around it and there is very good public transportation to the airport. You can probably find an economical hotel an hour from the airport. Get a good map of the area and use the Bahn website.
