We're going to Berlin next week. We're looking for a small,cheap hotel. We don't mind shared bathrooms or shower-only rooms. We are a family of 4. Anyone have any suggestions?

Rent an apt. There are 1000's of them. This way you have more space, have a kitchen and it will probably be cheaper than a hotel or a hostel.
I like this website as it tells me exactly what the apt. has, which neighborhood it is in and if it is available for the time period I am looking for, and if the owner speaks English. I didn't even have to pay a deposit!

We're booked into the City Hostel on Glinkastrasse next month. Rates are good, and they welcome adults, families, etc,etc ( ie not strictly for young people). Obviously I can't comment on the actual accommodations as we won't be there for a few weeks, but the rates and reviews seem positive. You can also get rooms with private bathroom.

This depends what cheap is to you, but I always stay in budget hotels. I stayed in the Hotel Opera. I loved this hotel! Amazing, a budget hotel with a great view! The breakfast there was free and it was GREAT!
When ever I go back to Berlin, I will stay there again for sure. Berlin is a great city, so I know you'll have a wonderful time!

The new Circus Hotel (the big brother of the long running Circus Hostel) is getting great reviews on tripadvisor and they have great rates.
