Has anyone done day trips from Paris to any of the Loire (or other) chateaux? Is it feasible, time-wise, to visit possibly two of them in a day by train? There are 4 of us, so we could rent a car for the day, preferably somewhere on the outskirts to avoid driving IN Paris (!) Any suggestions for a good way to do this & a suggested itinerary? Merci beaucoup...

I think you could catch an early morning high speed train out of Paris to Tours and rent a car and see 2-3 chateaus. We did 3 a day from a home base in the Loire, returning by 5 each night. I would do a little planning with the Rick Steves book as you can figure out which Chateaus will be easiest and most interesting to you.

PM Me if you want to stay overnight in a chateau about 15 min from Mont St. Michel. It wasn't expensive, and the experience was great!
