I've heard nothing but great comments about this castle or church..... However, I'm trying to locate it on a map and I'm getting very confused. The word "Chateauneuf en Auxois" does not seem to exist. I can see Chateauneuf or I see Chateau d'Epoisses in Semur-en-Auxois Help!
I googled it and many sites came up... look at this one: www.burgundy-canal.com/v/chateauneuf.html Per that site, they call it Chateauneuf I was there in '08, and loved it. We followed the Rick Steves scenic drive instructions in his France guide. You could look there as well.
If you use a Gps remember that there are several Chateauneuf's in France and you must enter Chateauneuf-en-auxois.It does overlook the Burgundy canal...really lovely in the Fall. THere is a great little creperie there called L'oree du Bois with a great fire place in the middle of the room.If you are interested in neat places to stay in the area, send me a PM.

Use google maps and do a search for Vandenesse-en-Auxois. On the map just to the right of Vandenesse you will see "Chateauneuf." That is Chateauneuf-en-Auxois. It is a beautiful tiny hilltop village. It does have the remains of an old castle, which you can see from a distance, but it is a village, not a castle or church. That area is a particularly beautiful part of France.
There is a castle which you can tour in Chateauneuf-en-Auxois. It looked great, with a large moat around it. It did not look like a ruin, it looked completely intact. Unfortunately, RS guide did not warn us that it was closed on the weekday we were there, we could have easily gone there another day had we known.
