Chateau of Versailles

Hi everyone...We are planning a four day trip to Paris and we plan to buy a Paris Museum. What does the one day pass get you that the Paris Museum will not? Is it worth the extra cost? Thanks

Trying to understand your question, Jeffrey. Trying (but failing to do so) to not point out that few Paris Museums are for sale...

The Paris Museum Pass can be bought for 2, 4 or 6 days. It allows you entrance to most of Paris' museums and monuments, including Versailles. It's a good deal if you'll go to Versailles, the Louvre and the Orsay in the course of two days. If all you want to visit is Versailles, just buy the entrance ticket.

I see my mistake. I did not notice it. Let me try this again.

We plan to buy the 4 day museum pass.

1) Since will be arriving in Paris via the train, is it easy to buy the pass in Paris and buy the pass on-line but and pay the 13.5 Euro.

2) I have been told that the Museum pass will get you into the Versailles but there are places and things inside the Versailles that only the one-day pass will give you access to. Is the Versailles one-day pass worth the extra cost?

Please pass on information that you think that might be useful to us. Thanks

Thanks for clarifying Jeffrey. To be clear, I understand you to be asking if you should buy the one-day Versailles pass for $16 Euro when you will already have the 4-day Paris Museum Pass that you bought for $48.

As far as I can tell, the only significant difference is that the Versailles pass lets you into the water shows and the Museum Pass does not. Otherwise, the Museum Pass gives you priority access to the Palace, the Trianons and Marie Antoinette's farm. So I don't think the extra cost for the Versailles pass is worth it.

Don't worry about buying the Museum Pass online. It's easy to buy when you get there.

Thanks Doug...Thats the type of information that I want. I know with the Paris Museum Pass, I still have to buy the audioguides for the Versailles. Jeff

I didn't check about audioguides coming with the Versailles pass. There would be some marginal value for those because the Palace is a little incomprehensible without decent guide material. You might check on this site to see if Rick has made a downloadable podcast for Versailles.

It really helps to go to Versailles with a little historical context - the monarchy of Louis XIV and the significance of him concentrating his court at Versailles and not in Paris. And then the gathering storm before the Revolution and why Versailles represented such excess in contrast to the circumstances of the French working class. Not to suggest that you don't have that background, but it's so easy these days to go armed with articles from Wikipedia, etc. that help.
