I just stumbled upon a website for the Chateau de Vincennes just outside of Paris. http://en.chateau-vincennes.fr/
It looks pretty neat, but as any traveller knows, what is advertised isn't always what you get. Tell me, how much of the insides can you tour? We loved our visit to Warwick Castle in Birmingham England because you could explore the inside halls, room and passages rather than just look at them from the outside. How much time would you think a vist would take: a couple of hours or a half day? Thanks so much!
Chateau de Vincennes has just been renovated, and it's pretty nice. You should not expect something like Versailles, as Vincennes is a medieval castle, with a donjon and it has been used as a prison for many centuries you can still see some straches on the wall made by prisonners from the 16th century. A couple of hours is enough there, the Chapelle is amazing, its considered as one of the jewel of gothic architecture. Very close to it you'll find the parc of Vincennes, with jazz concerts every july.
In a word, a nice place to go to if you're spending a week in Paris.
We visited in March 2011 while we were in Paris. The entrance allows you to go inside the moat/walls. The castle is a tour of the inside with a marked path. The interior is interesting but there is no furniture and little artwork. Just the walls but you go through 3 levels. You also are able to visit the chapel which is nice. Again just walls and windows, no furniture or any art per se. We spent about 2 hours there and felt that was sufficient, took lots of pictures. Enjoy!
There is a park nearby with 1-2x/week musical performances. Perhaps we'll do both on the same day. Thanks for your experience... I think we'll go there to see it!
