We arrive at the airport at noon (after a 10 hr. flight) What is the quickest, easiest way to get to bayeux by nightfall? We are considering a driver. Ideas there?
Gayl, The quickest and easiest way is likely to go by train. Using a "driver" is way above my budget, so that's not something I've ever tried. Although the trip will be a bit tiring after a 10-hour flight, it is possible. I've done similar trips after an international flight, and have managed reasonably well. There are two routes that could be used: 1.) RER "B" from CDG to Gare du Nord. From there a short walk to the Magenta station and then RER "E" to Hausmann St.-Lazare. Walk to Gare St. Lazare and then train to Bayeux. 2.) RER "B" from CDG to Châtelet Les Halles, walk to Châtelet and then Metro Line 14 (direction St. Lazare) to Gare St. Lazare. You might find it helpful to have a look at the excellent Paris By Train website for more detailed information. If you decide to go by train, note that the ticket Kiosks at CDG will ONLY accept "Chip & PIN" credit cards or Euro coins. There is a ticket office there, but in my experience there's usually a LONG queue. Another option might be to pre-book a Shuttle OR take a Taxi from the airport to Gare St. Lazare, and then travel by train. That would eliminate having to change trains while hauling all your kit. Happy travels!
A private driver will be horrendously expensive. Take the train. If your plane arrives on time, you can easily get to Gare Saint-Lazare in time to catch the 15:06 train to Bayeux which arrives at 17:21. The next train departs at 17:10 and arrives at 19:21.
