Chartres Stopover by Car

What is the best plan to visit the Chartres cathedral on a Sunday? We are traveling by car from Amboise to Paris and really want to see the cathedral. Parking outside town? Travel into center by public transportation?

Drive in and park in the underground lot in front of the cathedral.
