I am looking for a charming city to spend a few hours and break up the drive from Garmisch to Munich. In Rick's book he talks about Oberammergau, but it seems popular because of the play. Any other places? Small, quaint, "Bavarian", and charming? If it exists? Thanks Dyan
The play was 2 years ago. I think the crowds are gone.
Can't think of any on the direct route, but Mittenwald is a small, charming town just east of Garmisch.
Garmisch and Munich are pretty close. How far out of your way do you want / are you willing to go? Mebbe head up to Andechs for a bite and a beer (need a designated driver).
We just drove from Fussen to Garmisch through Austria, and then to Munich. You might consider going from Garmisch to Fussen, walk around, then drive on to Munich. Easy drive and not long.
