Charles De Gaulle Airport-changing planes?

So I was just looking at my Air France flight for September and noticed that I have to change planes in Paris to get to my final destination of Munich. There are only 1.25 hours between the flights.

Should I be concerned? My boyfriend and I are checking two bags so I am guessing that we will have to go through customs and then re-check back in. Is that the case? Is Air France good about making sure that they get you to your next leg of your journey?

Anything that I can do to minimize issues in between flights?

I feel a little stupid for not finding that link myself.

Thank you, Steve, for passing it along.

That's what I was thinking as well. I'd prefer to not deal with customs for my 1 hour layover but if I am going to have to, I want to be prepared.

As long as they have their buses lined up when you arrive, then you should be ok.

It took them 1/2 hour to send buses to meet our plane and then they were only running one. I was on the first one but a co-worker got stuck on the back of the plane and caught the last one. Barely made our 1 1/2 hr connection to London.

Steve, We flew United, not AF, but our flight was San Francisco, change planes in Frankfurt, and flight to Paris. We had to claim our bags in Frankfurt, go through customs, re-check our bags, and go through security to board our connecting flight.

I'm wondering why would it be different with AF?

Karen,

Certain companies have different rules due to the Schengen agreement. I would contact your airline directly and ask where you will clear customs. I think you'll have to clear passport control but not customs until you reach Munich. That's the standard way they do it nowadays. (my friend coming here next week will clear passport control in AMS but not customs until she arrives in Frankfurt.)

Our family enjoyed a 6 week vacation in Europe last year. The worst memory of the trip occurred at CDG- twice. Just be prepared for unusually unhelpful ticket staff and the worst information desk personnel on the planet. A very rude clerk provided us totally wrong information.

But we were ticketed all the way through on the same ticket.

Same thing happened when we came back through Chicago to SF.

Our experience at CDG was the opposite of the post above. We flew out of CDG on 7/11 and they could not have been nicer. We were amazed how friendly, helpful and kind everyone working there was. Particularly the people working the security line.

It also wasn't crazy at CDG at all as people had warned. We got there 3 hrs early and just sat around for 1 1/2 hrs with nothing to do.

Schengen rules don't vary from one airline to the other. You'll go thru immigration in Paris and customs in Munich....and that probably won't be much of a check, anyway.

Thank you, everyone. I am no longer concerned. I can now focus on this month's trip to Las Vegas and then refocus on Munich and Paris for September.

More good reasons for taking a carry on. You never have to be separated from your bag.

Make sure Passport Control (CDG) stamps you passport. They are notorius for forgetting to stamp it and just waiving you through. If they don't then do not discard your boarding pass from your arrival flight. They may ask for it when you come back if they don't see a stamp in your passport.

Our bags were checked through to Athens. I think that the time of day and year make a difference while there. Ours was hectic, crowded, wrong info for catching our shuttle. We will be trying to go through any other port for our next trip to Switzerland. We loved Air France. Best flight home on a757 400. Most flights are the 300. We sat in the back and had so much leg room. It was just 2 seats and we loved it. Just the airport was the problem.

The layover time you have should be enough. You may want to check out the AF instructions for changing terminals at CDG; you can put in your arrival info. and it will let you know which terminal you will arrive at and how to change terminals step by step (if necessary) for your next flight. (see URL below). Your bags should be checked through to Munich. If you fly business or first, AF will escort you through the changes if your plane is late or if you have a short transfer time.

Karen,
We arrive in 2D and depart from 2E (or vice versa). I used the handy times between terminals tool on the site.

Apparently, I can walk this in 12 minutes...
