Will be traveling in June from Colmar to Provence with 2 days for Berner Oberland or Chamonix? It seems they will be similar but haven't read any direct comparisons of the two. Please advise.

I posted this exact same question in '05 cuz I had the same dilemma... We have since been to both, twice. I prefer the Berner Oberland... it's much more magnificent imo. And I thought the towns in the BO were more charming. I also liked the hiking better in the BO. But they're both great places and you really can't go wrong either way.

They're comparable but a little different. In your case, I would go to Chamonix, as it's much closer to your route of travel... especially given that you've only budgeted two days.

I agree with the other poster-if you only have two days, then go to Chamonix. Both areas are magnificent, but the Berner Oberland deserves more days (lots to see and do) and doesn't fit into your itinerary as well.
