Chamonix must see in 1.5 days

Our family or 4 is staying in Chamonix Sept 10-12. I was wondering, besides Aiguelle gondola, what else is a must see Chamonix sight? Also what is the best way to do the Aiguelle gondola? any tips would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Not much time to see much exept for the cable ride you referred to which is worth every penny. A very unique and neat setting is Chamonix to say the least. Have fun.

Keep it simple: one day for the gondola, other half day just to explore the city on foot and rest. The best way to visit the Mont Blanc is to complete the crossing to the Italian side, and then back (by bus via the road tunnel, 40 minutes). They have bundled tickets that comprise French ascent + Italian descent + bus back to Chamonix. Worth every single euro of it, but beware: do not go if the weather is full of low clouds.

We rented bikes in Chamonix and rode out of town along the river and back, it was magical.

The bike idea sounds just great. Where is the rental place?

Have you considered the Luge rides?? May be a little pricy. What is age of the 4? Even seniors can do the luge rides. It is possible to steer with one hand and video-record with other. Fee is around $14 euro, not sure what else you can do there. If you go to Mt. Blanc, go EARLY, first trip up if possible.

If I remember right, it's on the main street leading to the cable car to Aiguille du Midi. Just ask when you get to Chamonix and I'm sure someone there can be more helpful. :)

When you purchase your tic for ADM you have the option of getting a tic(better price if you opt for both) for the cog train to the glacier. This is definitely worth it-lovely train ride through the treetops. We enjoyed a hike along the Aarve River. Very pretty along the river and you can ride bikes there also.

We did the luge and it was a lot of fun. If I remember right, you pay a one-time fee and can ride as many times as you want.

Ages are 7&8yrs. 30's of adults. Thanks. Luge sounds fun. Also should we reserve gondola ahead? If so do you reserve a specific time?

Was there in May 2010 and really enjoyed the Mer de Glace -- reached by rack railroad. It was a very unique experience.

Whether the gondola runs is dependent on the weather so I would not book ahead (not sure you can anyway). When we were there, there was a storm at the top of the mountain and the gondola was closed. We hung around the ticket office for a while and was there when they opened the gondola for the only ride of the day, and we were able to go only to the halfway point.
