Chamonix hotels

I'm looking for a comfortable hotel in Chamonix for the holiday season. We'd like a place that's family-friendly, not too noisy, and close to the ski lifts. Good breakfast food would be a real plus!

By "holiday season" do you mean Christmas and New Years? By close to the ski lifts, are you intending on skiing? The ski areas at Chamonix are a bit disconnected. You access them from cable car stations in the valley floor and are accessed from town by shuttle buses. Argentiere, Le Brevent, Mont Blanc (not really a ski area, take a guide to ski the glacier). For skiing, Chamonix is definitely for hard cores. "Holiday Season" will also mean a 7 night minimum and the highest prices of the year.

Do you mean for 2013? European families booked months ago.

As Bets noted, many Europeans book their skiing holodays well in advance. But just out of couriosity I checked Hotel,Edennin Les Praz des Chamonix, one train stop away from the city and near the base of La Flegere lift. We dined their twice during our stay in a chalet there, the food was that good. They do have one family apartment left over Christmas ( for a week). Les Praz is very quiet and well away from the bustle of the city.

I highly recommend Auberge du Manoir. Stayed their this summer and loved it. It is just 2 blocks off a Main Street but quiet. Has its own yard and hot tub. Outstanding breakfast with great homemade yogurt and pastries. The couple who run it are kind and helpful. Easy walk to several lifts and easy bus rides to many others.
