Chamonix Hotels

I have purchased Rick's guidebooks for Italy and Switzerland for our European trip this fall. We're only going to be in France one day when we spend the night in Chamonix before going over Mont Blanc to Italy so I didn't purchase the France book. Can anyone recommend a hotel in Chamonix?

We stayed at a RS recommended hotel called Hotel Gourmets et Italy in July '05. We liked it well enough. (www.hotelgourmets-chamonix.com) I highly recommend getting a room with a balcony, whatever hotel you choose. Another good idea is to go to a bookstore, look at the RS guidebook and write down websites of hotels he recommends in Chamonix then you can choose one that sounds good to you. We loved Chamonix and especially Mont Blanc. Have fun!

Thank you, Susan, for the tip. I will be checking out the hotel in Chamonix. Also, I will just go to a bookstore and browse, with pen and paper. Thanks again for getting back to me so quickly.

in the small town of dolone italy there is a wonderful hotel....hotel des glaciers 39 0165 842037 at [email protected] just across the river from courmayeur....if you go do the 1/2 pension the food is wonderful....been staying there for 20 years its a family run hotel and their daughter runs the hotel across the street hotel stella del nord. it will take you 20-40 min to get there fromm chamonix and dolone/courmayeur are much smaller towns and tend to have better weather than
chamonix. there is a good bus connection from chamonix to courmayeur...karol

I second the Hotel Gourmets et Italy. We were there for two nights in April '06. Friendly staff, delicious breakfast, great location. We loved the nearby Le Serac restaurant. We heartily recommend the Crouton Savoyard and the Fondue Savoyard (not at the same meal). We also ate at the Le Monchue where the Boueff Pierrade (sp?) was wonderful. I'm so jealous ---have fun!
