We are planning to visit Chamonix, France on June 7 and 8 but are finding that many of the hotels recommended by RS are closed during that time. Is the city and all the sights and activities closed during this time also??

Don't know your budget, but we stayed at Le Morgane, a Best Western, in the heart of town and loved it.

Try www.booking.com They show lots of places that have availability for those dates. We booked through booking.com and stayed at Les Balcons du Savoy. Loved it! Nice big lawn out in front where parasailers land with view great of Mont Blanc.
