Would like to visit MT. Blanc for a day but rather reside for the night some place else. Any suggestions on nearby Switzerland resort/hotel accommodations? We have Swiss train passes. THANKS.
Maybe in Martigny? But what's wrong with Chamonix that you don't want to stay overnight? Most Swiss passes cover travel to Chamonix---at least ours did when we were then in 2005.
If you do stay in Chamonix we stayed in a great place outside of town. It was called the Hotel Eden. We liked it so much that we stayed extra time. Had a great dinner there celebrating my daughter's birthday. They even sent me a note after 9-11
Mary Joe, that is good to know. I have recommended Hotel Eden based on two delicious dinners we enjoyed there, and the location, which is great. But I've never seen the rooms, just trusted that they are as nice as the food and hospitality at dinner.
The rooms were great. It was a like a townhouse suite. My two grown daughters got the upstairs room. I know the price was reasonable.
i would suggest the hotels in FINHAUT, switz. Its in the Forclaz pass between Chamoniz and Martigny. Terrific views of the Noire defile (kinda like grand canyon). However, its a Small hilly town. Long walk from train station to most hotels. Hauling a large bag Uphill for miles was daunting to me(a senior citizen)(check their tourist office, they may have a taxi?). So i stayed in Martigny. Not too far from Chamonix by train and LESS expensive hotels !! I do Regret not staying in Finhaut !!
