My wife and I are leaving on Aug 5 for Portugal and Spain (10 days). Would like to rent a cell phone that works in both countries. Anyone have a recommendation?

I've never heard of such a service. With pre-paid phone packages starting at €20 or so, I don't really see much point in renting. I assume that any of the major operators will function in both countries, but my only hands on experience is with Vodafone. If you purchase the phone from a bazaar it will most likely come "free" (i.e. no SIM lock) and you'll even be able to use it when you get home. A phone purchased from a chain store will be tied to one operator, or will be extremely expensive in its free version.
