Cell Phone Options

I have explored options and I think I will go with CALL IN EUROPE for 2 weeks in Germany in June. I like the idea that I get billed later and don't have to keep pre-paying. The rates look good too. I know that I could wait until I get to Germany but our time is limited and I don't want to go searching for a phone and SIM card after I get there. I can get a cheap phone with good reviews (NOKIA 1208) and a SIM card for $58 ($29 each) > http://www.callineurope.com/

Any thoughts?

If you are only going to use it on one trip it's probably fine. Their SIM card expires after three months unless you make $20 in calls every quarter. If you wanted to use it later you would have to buy a new SIM and get a new number. SIM card from Mobal give you a permanent number and their service is also a post-paid one.

I used Call in Europe last year in France. Great service, no dropped calls. The rates charged were just as advertised. I think it is the way to go. I've used other companies in the past with call back services... not happy with them. This worked really well... just like my cell phone at home. One word of warning... make sure your data applications are off. My understanding is that if you send and receive email or have some other data using application the rates are quite steep and add up quickly. Also, check the rates for the country you go to. I read a review from some guy traveling in the middle east and he was paying 4$ a minute.... (that isn't exactly a call in europe is it?)I have an unlocked Nokia that I put the card in and it worked beautifully.
