Cell Phone in Austria

Ok, I've read different posts and I understand about getting my GSM phone unlocked & just switching out my SIM card once we get there. For budgeting purposes, I'm trying to figure out approximate cost of the Austrian SIM card. I looked at www.prepaidgsm.net and one other site, but I find it somewhat confusing. Anyone understand that site or know the costs in Austria?

Thanks!

Robin, most of the SIM cards are cheap (in London it was a pound at Orange). Its the adding of the "Pay as you go" minutes that will determine the cost.

I've waded through all the plans listed on prepaidgsm.net and elsewhere and the card by eety seems to be the best bet for Austria. It costs €0.13/minute to the US, €0.09/minute for local calls. The card is €14.90 and comes with €5.00 credit. All of the other brands are much more (> 0.70/min) to call to the US and a little more for local calls. You should be able to get the eety card at just about any phone shop, tabac, supermarket, etc -- I looked up their "official" retailers on their site and there are dozens just in Vienna.

Note that if you venture out of Austria you'll have to buy another SIM (this one doesn't allow roaming, it's one drawback).

Thanks for your help. Craig, I appreciate reaping the benefits of your research. I'm glad someone was able to figure out that gsm site, because I was VERY confused!

Thanks again! :-)
