I am sensitive to gluten, and would prefer not to spend my vacation in the bathroom - I want to see the Louvre, not the loo!
Am I stuck eating salads for my entire trip? Can I get anything for breakfast that is not wheat based? I rarely eat out in the US as nearly anything you can get in a restaurant has either a flour in sauce or as an ingredient, includes wheat based noodles or is on bread/crust/pannini etc. I get tired of having the salad every time.
Hi Diana. I have been to Paris and found it easy enough to be gluten free. I found the printout cards on the net that describe what Celiacs cannot eat. Not sure where to find it but google Celiac travel. I found the Naturalia stores and bought gf bread and crackers. I often had a large salad for lunch. Breakfast was either my own GF cereal with a bowl of milk from the hotel or if breakfast was included, there was always yogurt, fruit, meat and cheese, so I usually have a large breakfast. I went to the open air markets and bought more fresh fruit and veggies, and of course cheese and tried to picnic for a few lunches. This cut down the cost and the taste of the fresh food from the market is excellent. I am not at my home computer, so I can't provide you with the links for the stores. If you pm me, I will try and find them. BUT I found them myself by googling gluten free paris. It is definately doable and with the translated card and some common sense, I was always ok. I did have some snack foods for the plane as they didn't get my requested menu, so I always have some protein bars and some rice crackers, fruit bars, enough for the trip over and back and one or 2 bars for snacks if I need it. That way, as I eat them, there is more room to bring gifts (for me) home. Happy Travels. June
Thank you June, I was worried that they might ignore the cards. I will definately be taking snack bars on the plane!
YOu certainly will not be stuck with salads all the time.. favorite and common meals are roast chickent and pomme frites( french fries),, or steak and fries, or mussels and fries,, er , you see a pattern here. LOL
There is a restuarant called Breakfast In America that serves all day breakfasts,, so eggs bacon etc.. very popular, but the menu looked expensive to me( for what you get) so I have never been .
