Any suggestions for best route/method for CDG to Mons, Belgium?
You can probably catch the Thalys train from Gare du Nord to Brussels, then it's a quick local train from Brussels to Mons. One note that sometimes confuses people, even Belgians themselves: many Belgian cities are known by both their French and Dutch names. This is not much of a problem for many cities (Bruges-Brugge, Bruxelles-Brusel, Louvain-Leuven, Courtrai-Kortrijk), but for Mons, the Dutch name is completely different- Bergen. At least is has the same meaning in both languages...
You do not need to go into Paris. You can either take a TGV from CDG to Lille and change there to a regional train to get to Mons or take a TGV from CDG to Brussels and change there to a regional train to get to Mons. For complete timetables, go to www.bahn.de. Click on the drop-down flag menu for English. After you get summary timetables for Aeroport Paris-Charles de Gaulle TGV to Mons, click on the arrow to the left of each departure time to see the connecting points. The Bahn timetables will also show routes using the RER to get to Gare du Nord where you would catch a Thalys train, etc.
Thanks guys, CDG to Brussels/Lille and I/C to Mons it is. Geoff
