CDG to hotel on Rue Cler: RER/metro route?

I would like to take the RER/metro from CDG airport to our hotel on Rue Cler, but I am not sure of the best route. Looking at the map, it seems like there are several possibilities:

  1. RER B to Gare de Nord, line 4 to Strassbourg St. Denis, line 8 to Ecole Militaire.

  2. RER B to Denfert Rochereau, line 6 to la Motte Picquet Grenelle, line 8 to Ecole Militaire.

  3. RER B to St. Michel Notre Dame, RER C to Invalides, line 8 to Ecole Militaire.

And there probably are more routes that I am not seeing. Anyone know the best route? We will be taking the Eurostar from Gare du Nord when we leave Paris so I was thinking it might be helpful to go that route just to see what the station is like (we have been on the Paris metro before but never to that station), but it might not be worth it if the transfers are easier a different way.

Thanks!

Does your hotel have directions on their web?
Or send them an email asking them for directions.

So far as I can tell, you've found the three most logical routes. The Journey Planner on the RATP site selects route #1 as being the fastest. Since RER trains don't run as frequently as Metro trains, route #3 might take the longest, even though there would be fewer stops.

Don't forget to keep you RER ticket to exit. You will insert it into the exit machine for the doors to open. I saw alot of people searching for it after a long ride into Paris and at the airport. The metro does not require it to exit.

Look on Page 436 of RS Paris 2009 guide book for suggestions for getting from CDG into Paris. We used the Roissy-Bus to Opera and then the Metro to Rue Cler on May 9,2009 with RS wheeled bags with attachable carry-on's with no problem.

Hi Molly,
I've stayed on the Rue Cler and return frequently to eat now that I prefer to stay in the 6th. I found that the La Motte-Piquet Grenelle stop is closer to the Rue Cler than the Ecole Militaire. This is good for you because it will eliminate an unneccessary change. Your second route is the best. Just cut out the third train. Remember that the bigger the bubble on the metro map, the longer the walk. I always try to find connections with small or no bubbles and no more than one connection. Lazy me.
Hope this helps,
Katherine
