Catacombes in Paris

I know the Catacombes just reopened in Paris. Has anyone been? Looking for info about if it is worth a stop...and how long does it take to tour?

I have been there, a few years ago, but the reno couldn't have changed much, bones is bones, pile this way, , pile them that way, there is just lots and lots of bones.
The thing about the Catacombs is that ,although for some it may just be an "unusual" or " macabre " site, it really is a tad more. I suggest you read up on them a bit to determine whether it is worth it to YOU. I went as I had a 14 yr old who insisted, would I have done it on my own, no, I am claustrophobic and found it difficult to do, but I did it. Son loved it ! Husband took second son the next year, and they both loved it too.
I did find some aspects kind of rewarding( don't know if that is the term I need here), looking at all those skulls and realizing those were actual people, well, it can make one very contemplative if you know what I mean.
It didn't have a line when we went, and I don't recall thinking it was too expensive. It is a long walk underground in the damp so wear a sweater and decent shoes.

They have a website so google it and read up on it.

I went about 2 weeks ago. I loved it, was a real highlight for me. However beware it takes a bit of time. Plan for at least 2 hours. The entrance and exit are not at the same place so beware of that. However whats nice is the entrance is directly across the street from the metro stop. Also there is a long set of stairs going down, and a slightly shorter (84) step staircase up to exit (the steps are quite high so it takes a little more effort than a normal step. Also I would bring a flash light as it is very dim in there and the lights don't always show some of the patterns the bones make. It makes taking pictures easier as you are not allowed to take flash photography

Vanessa , good point, the entrance and exit are far apart, so if you send the boys down on their own( which I had contemplated) they will end up somewhere else in Paris.Yup, you'll have to go,, LOL

We were just there about three weeks ago and the Catacombes are worth seeing. We allowed about an hour. It was not crowded at all as opposed to the major museums which were packed.

I loved it - and think this would be a highlight for any kids who might be teetering on the brink of art museum overload.

I only waited in line for maybe 5 minutes when I went. But once I got inside and past the first part, there were plenty of times I found myself completely alone down there with the skulls and bones - creepy, but fun.

The ground is uneven in spots and definitely damp and slick in areas - wear shoes with good traction and like previous poster mentioned, a small flashlight would help in some areas.

I was down there for about 2 hours, but I took quite a few photographs and wasn't walking fast.

We were there on a Saturday and it took us almost an hour to get in. They have a limit (~200) for the number of people allowed in at once. A really long ine can move quite quickly if there is a big group that exits at once. I think the last tickets were sold at 4:30 in the afternoon, so you may want to try to be there earlier in the day.

One thing we found is that the ceiling was low in most places. My husband is 6'4" and had to spend most of the walk ducking his head (although I, at only 5'4", sailed along quite happily).

Yes, go this is a site well worth taking in, especially with teen boys. I went with my two boys in mid-May and found it fascinating. Like anything, touristy, be prepared to perhaps wait in line, wear comfortable shoes and take your camera.

You exit on Avenue General LeClerc half
way between the Line 4 metro stops of Alesia
and Mouton Duvernet.

(The entrance is at the Line 4 stop - Denfert
Rochereau). (two stops north of the exit)
