We will soon be traveling to Madrid, Seville, Toledo and it will be quite warm. Is casual dress (shorts, capri pants for women) acceptable or should we restrict ourselves to long pants, dresses, etc? Can women enter churches with capri pants?

We traveled around Spain in August w/a former exchange student and her family. The Spanish father often wore nice shorts. The Spanish mom usually wore capris. We were allowed in everywhere.

Thanks for all the replies. You werer all on target. Even in Toledo, where Rick Steves said you could not enter the cathedral with shorts, we found men and women in shorts, women in very short shorts and halter tops. Only restriction was I had to take my hat off.

Shorts, halter tops, all seem acceptable...take hats off.....a decade or so ago, women had to wear scarves or veils in Cathedrals, ..not any more...
