Me and my girlfriend will be traveling to Paris at the end of Sept. We are trying to minimize the amount of clothing we want to take since we will be visiting Spain, France, and the UK for two weeks. I would like to take her out to dine out in Paris at a nice restaurant but we both don't want to pack "dressy clothes" to eat out. I don't wish to pack a blazer/suit/tie and dress shoes and she does not want to pack anything dressy herself. Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice restaurant where it's more casual but not like you are going to a chain restautant? Any recent recommendations? I don't mind spending the $$$ but just don't want to lug around a blazer/suit, tie, and dress shoes. I will bring at least two dress shirts and a pair of kaki pants. Shoes will be something casual for street wear and a night out.
We have enjoyed Le Montebello several times. It's in the Latin Quarter, directly across from Notre Dame with a lovely view of the side of Notre Dame. Lots of locals eating there, good 3 course dinner for about $30.....Jacket and tie are certainly not required, although it isn't the sort of place for a sport logo t-shirt and baseball cap either. Jeans with a nice shirt or top would be fine. (I'm not sure what you mean by "casual.") It's especially enjoyable when it's warm enough to sit at one of the sidewalk tables. The waiters are even friendly.
Georges on top of the Pompidou center is a nice Paris restaurant and most paris people dress casual. The waiters and waitresses are the best dressed. The views from the restaurant are some of the finest in Paris. Last june we celebrated my son's birthday and most people were in nice jeans and sweaters.
Thanks for the reply. My definition of casual would be Dockers type of pants, coupled with a polo or long sleeve collared shirt. Shoes would be anything short of shoes made for athletic type of activities.
www.robertetlouise.com (3rd Arrondissement) Casual atmosphere, not a chain, moderate prices. The menu is heavy on meat dishes, so if your girlfriend is vegetarian or prefers seafood, then look elsewhere.
When we are at Georges I wore a Tommy Bahama polo shirt and shoes along with J Crew khaki pants. I do not take any dressy clothes to europe as I prefer comfort and do not eat in any of the fancy french restaurants.
Thanks for the recommendations.....I'm looking at the menus for a couple of these places. Keep the recommendations coming. I thought quail would be on the menu at some of the places...
