Has anyone stayed at a castle hotel along the romantic road or nearby area? Looking for a recommendation. Maybe something near Rothenburg. Thank you!

We stayed at Schoenberg Castle between Bacharach and St Goar a few years back. Great rooms, great food...Here's the website.

There is also Burg Harburg above the town of Harburg south of Rothenburg on the Romantic Road.
The website is only in German. Room prices are under "Angebot".

Like Sam, my wife and I stayed at Schonburg last September. Located high above the Rhine River, it had beautiful views and lots of neat areas to explore. It was pricey, but I don't regret it at all.

We also stayed at Schonberg Castle Hotel and loved it. The dinner was excellent and views of the Rhine nice. It was October and logs fires were burning--wonderful atmosphere. True, it was a bit of a splurge but did not break the bank.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I thought we would stay at Burg-Colmberg but after your recommendations (and looking at the website) I am awaiting a response from Burg Schoenburg on availablity. Now I have another question about a Rhine day cruise. Thanks again! I have posted a new post about the Rhine cruise.
