We are staying in Germany and are interested in taking our 2 kids to see some of the parades, etc. for Carnival. I understand that Cologne has the most famous celebration. Has anyone ever been to Carnival in Germany?

Yes, of course. I have to go thru it every year ;-)... The parades are on Carnival Monday, which is next monday. The biggest and best ones are in Mainz, Cologne and Düsseldorf. All three of these cities can be called Carnival capitals. But there are pretty good parades in other towns and cities as well. Make sure your kids get to wear Carival customes (similar to your Halloween customes)!

The parades go pretty much thru the entire downtown areas so first you have to figure out where you want to stand an watch it. Then if you want to be in the front row it makes sense arriving around an hour earlier...
