My husband and I will be driving from Carcassonne to Barcelona (via Coulliore) in April during Holy Week. Is there an inexpensive place to stay in the outskirts of Barcelona, (with parking included) that is close to a Metro stop to get into the city? Or should we just plan to stay in the city and brave the traffic and pay 30 euros a night to park?

We visited Carcassone and Barcelona last May but did the trip in reverse and took train from Barcelona to Carcassone actually making a stop in Narbonne. The drop fee for leaving the rental car in a different country could be hefty. I cannot imagine driving in the city center of Barcelona. Can you drop the car in Coulliore? If you planning to travel to other places in Spain you might consider getting a car on the outskirts of Barcelona. Also, I don't know how long you plan to stay in Barc but you will want to stay in the city and walk/use metro to all the sights. There is so much to see and do in Barcelona--we loved it and hope to return. Have a great trip!

Nice to hear from you. We are actually traveling the south of France, and just dropping down into Spain for a couple of days to see Barcelona. We will return to the French Riviera after Spain, so we keep the car to drop off at the Nice airport. Help! Anyone? Is there a place to stay on the outskirts of Barcelona where we can just park the car at our hotel and take the Metro in?

Seems to me that you don't need to stay on the outskirts of town, only the car does. For years, my wife has parked the car daily in the free parking lot behind the train station on the beach in Badalona. She has never had a problem with theft or vandalism. I wouldn't leave a foreign rental filled with luggage there, but empty, why not? The ride by train from Badalona to Las Ramblas in the heart of downtown Barcelona is about 20 minutes, so accessing the car would be no problem. If interested, let me know and I'll make you a map showing how to get to the parking lot.

Carolyn, can you introduce destinations directly by latitude and longitude in your GPS? (Most can). If so, try these coordinates: 41º26'33.54"N 2ª14'50.00"E. This is the entrance to the parking lot. If this doesn't seem to make sense to your GPS unit or if you would like more specific indications, send me a PM. (I hadn't seen your penultimate post.)
