Hi, We're going to be in Paris for the first time in September. We're arriving on Eurostar at gare du nord and were looking for suggestions for a car/van service that will meet us and get us to the apartment we're renting in the Marais district. Failing that, can anyone give us an idea about how the taxi service works and how much it might cost to taxi vs a service? I hope this makes sense. thanks!
Chris
A regular metered taxi will be cheaper than a private transfer. At the Gare du Nord, walk off the Eurostar platform onto the main concourse, turn sharp right, walk out of the station side entrance and there's the taxi rank just outside and to your right. There's often a long queue for taxis, but it moves pretty fast and you should be inside a taxi within 10 minutes. Always use the official taxi rank for a regular metered Parisian taxi. Make sure the driver turns the meter on when you drive off. Taxi rates in Paris are regulated by the Prefect of Police. Don't call for a cab; use the official taxi rank. If you call, the meter starts running when the driver receives the call. In a taxi rank, the meter doesn't start until you're in the cab and on your way.
Thanks, Tom, for the detailed advice. We'll go with a taxi.
