car travel Salzburg to Reutte

First of all a big thankyou to Jo, Kent, Tom, Frank, et.al. I have been checking the RS Helpline for 6 mo. now- all in preparation for the coming weeks- thankyou for all the wisdom, expertise, sense of humor and occasional sassy attitude- it's been great!!

Two questions: Question#1: 2 families, 2 cars, 2 younger children, 2 older teens,- traveling from Salzburg to Reutte ( I know, I know) early on a Sunday morning. Time for lunch in Oberamergau? once in Reutte time for Tagelburg gondola/ luge ride?? or hike on Alpine barefoot flower path just west of Reutte???

I'll post question #2 separately... thankyou!!!

Leslie: Thanks for the kind words! We like to think we do sassy attitude pretty well here--just shows a little but we try not to be obnoxious about it.:D

I can help you answer the first part of your question #1. The way any of us would answer is to go to either Viamichelin or GoogleMap and enter your route, and it's better for you (and us) if you do that part for yourself, you'll get a better answer for you.

Those two online driving trip planning tools can be reached if you go to my pseudo-stickie link which you will find here.

I've left the rest of question #1 for others to answer.

And remember that the driving times given on Google or Viamichelin do not include time for stops of any type. If it says 4 hours it's assuming you have pedal to the metal for 4 hrs without a pit stop--so you have to add for pit stops, stretch stops, etc.

Also, people here have consistently reported that their actual driving times took about 25% longer than the driving times given by Google or Viamichelin. And to clarify: this was 25% longer, in addition to time added to account for stops.

So you take the driving times and add for 2 things:

stops of any kind, including pit stops

many add about 25% for additional causes, such as traffic not being "normal", getting lost.

If you don't have a GPS and you're going to be doing some navigating off the auto-routes, that's a reason to add the 25% (especially in Italy or southern France).
