I am looking for a car rental company that would give me an AUTOMATIC car! I want to pick it from Granada and drop it off in Seville. Unsuccessful so far! ANy help would be appreciated regarding
Hertz has automatics, but we're finding that it's almost twice as much as a stick shift.
Try carjet.co.uk...but they are expensive.
We used GoldCar Rentals in March 2009, picked it up at the airport in Granada and dropped it off at the airport in Seville (I think those were our only options for pick-up/drop-off). We got an automatic, to boot.
Now, regarding pick-up/drop-off: it was slightly inconvenient, as we had to take the airport bus from our hotel in Granada and if I recall correctly, it runs on a limited schedule. As for the drop off in Seville, the drop off isn't at the airport, per se, rather it's by a gas station near the airport (they gave us pretty good directions while in Granada). The GoldCar then has a shuttle to take you down the road to the airport, where you can catch the airport bus to get into Seville.
All in all, though, it wasn't too bad and the price at the time for the rental was great.
One more: I remember researching DoYouSpain.com, also, when looking for rentals. I'd seen their name come up on TripAdvisor.com, but you may want to do a little search first to make sure they are still recommended.
I got a very reasonable automatic from Avis earlier this spring. It was only slightly higher in price (not double like you generally see). However, I was renting it round trip from Malaga.
Thank you everyone for the help ! I found a really good deal with Avis!
In April we rented a car from Avis, totally satisfied and no extra charge for kilometers travelled. One flat daily fee and a great little diesel sedan with lots of pep.
Almost impossible to get a reasonable rate on an automatic car, just returned from Spain, rented through AutoEurope and picked up the car from Europcar. Beware of hidden extra expenses and don't pick up at the airport (extra surcharge that you find out about at the airpost) or take the prepaid fuel regardless of what they tell you about being the same price. Spain just raised the taxes on rental cars on July 1. Pick up at a city location on the way out of town and return in the city too. Unless you plan on driving a lot, Granada is an easy walking town except up to the Alhambra or Albayzin, take the mini-bus 1.2 euros. The airport bus from GRX to downtown is easy, quick and cheap. I wouldn't drive in Seville and I've driven in Europe a lot, parking is a hassle too. If you change your mind, we took the bus from Granada to Seville, 2.5 hours for 19 euros. The train was 3 times as much, took longer and required changes. In Seville, the center of the universe in my opinion is the Barrio Sta. Cruz, while we couldn't get reservations at the Amadeaus, we did go in and it looked great. Unless you plan on being outside of the cities most of the time, the expenses involved with driving are very high.
Thank you Keith,
The reason we want to get a car is to basically drive down the cost del sol and spend 2 days just visiting different towns like Nerja, Rhonda, marbella and malaga!! We wanted to see all these towns and couldnt figure out a better and cheaper way of doing this that wouldnt be time consuming.
If you belong to AAA they arrange for car rentals in Europe and you get a discount.
Hi again, Sarah,
I'd like to propose you also consider Gibraltar as a stop between Granada and Seville. Watch out for the monkeys on the Rock, though, they steal.
