We will need a 5 seater vehicle for October which accommodates 3 adults and two children's car seats. We don't want to pay too much. We fly into Murcia from Toronto. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
I have used Auto Europe numerous times in Europe, including Spain. I have always been pleased with them, their service and feel we got a good deal. I just booked a car for this fall for less than $200 for a week.
The last time in Spain, we even scratched the car up pretty significantly and were never charged for the damage....
I used them in Paris for a week in France dropping off in Toulouse. Word to the wise, make sure your car has a spare tire and you pay the 7 or 10 euro extra for the tire clause! We popped a tire in Dinan at 10:30pm on a Saturday night in the rain and found out too late that we had no spare!! Thank goodness for the local Renault dealer that had an on call tow tuck driver willing to help us on a Sunday (they were closed). We paid about $235 for the tow and tire and found out after the fact that there was a nominal fee we could've paid so we wouldn't be out of pocket for the $235.
... For both our 5 week driving adventures in Spain and Spain/Portugal we used Rentalcars.com, they are part of Priceline and booking.com. ... last year Rentalcars.com found an excellent price with Hertz and in 2011 it was through Europecar. This past year we had the additional benifit of being able to pick up (Valencia) and drop off (Barcelona) without penalty. I see you are flying into Murcia are you planning on spending time around the Costa Blanca? ...
We found the service excellent and prices were great. N.B. If you have a Gold or platinum visa pay for your rental on that and make sure you use same card at pick up location. You won't need to take out the additional insurance as covered on your Visa..
Thank you everyone for your help. Regards, Jennifer
I think we used Autoeurope for our Rental in Spain April, 2012 - but not before pricing every option and deciding it was our best choice. You can save some money by not renting at the airport. Wait until you are done with your first city and rent downtown as you are leaving. The same on the off end, when you arrive at your last city before flying home, the car first at a convenient location to your lodging. If you are planning to pack a lot of luggage, don't count on a five seater being enough. One trip we leased a seven passenger car for five of us, self, spouse and kids 16, 12, and 8 (one carry-on each) and it was just right. If we were bigger or carrying more luggage we would have been very uncomfortable. Something that seats five probably won't include adequate room for even light packers.
Hi, one thing that i would say is please read the terms and conditions for whichever company you choose. many will charge you additional for a tank of petrol and the amount will depend on the type of vehicle you rent. also if you take out insurance be sure to read the small print on what it really covers. I would avoid Gold car as i had a bad experience. my credit card was double charged and as often as i contacted the head office my money was never returned.
We spent three week s in Spain in October. We rented through AAA (don't know if you a member of an auto club) and the agency was Hertz. It was one of the crispest most pleasant rental experiences ever. Rates great. We avoided Auto Europe as heard that they are consolidators and super agents; they are not the the folks you rent from. With AAA and Hertz we had a multinational firm and American travel/insurance company between us and a local agency. We did have an auto problem due do a personal driving error! We were in a small city and as I had to have an automatic transmission we were bumped up from a B class Mercedes to a very large Volvo. I think any rental agency can handle your car requests for size. Remember to pack light. Trunk storage even with a van will be smaller than in North America.
