Car Rental in Innsbruck

During our journey through Europe, we plan on renting a car for a few days to drive through Austria's Tirol and Germany's Bavaria. We will be in Innsbruck and, after doing some price comparisons, we were thinking of renting the car from a Hertz affiliate in town. Has anyone had any experience with car rentals in Innsbruck? Also, how is the drive in and around Bavaria?

Hi Oscar, If you can drive in the States, you can drive in Austria and Bavaria. Of course, it's best to become familiar with some road signs in advance. It's also best to get a good map (we use Michelin maps) and get familiar with the directions of where you may want to go beforehand. http://german.about.com/library/blauto_traf.htm You may also want to check car rental prices in Garmisch, Germany. This is about an hour away from Innsbruck by train and prices for car rentals in Germany are generally cheaper. How much cheape,r considering you'd need to train to garmisch, you'd have to check the rental price and of course the train fare to get there. Paul

Oscar, also go to the Autoeurope.com website, play with the various pick-up and drop-off sites, and car sizes, to see what pricing you can find. We use AE for most of our auto rentals in Europe. They are a broker, based in Maine, that handles all of the majors. Take your GPS with you, and a small fold up Michelin map of the area, and you will be fine. Have fun!
