Car rental in France and Travel Guard

You've all been so helpful in the past and now I need your input again. I am planning on renting a car someplace in Provence. As of now, I am not sure where I will be staying. Questions are: What cities in Provence have good car rentals? I plan to go through one of Rick's suggested companies or one you have found to be good. Has anyone declined CDW and gotten Travel Guard instead? If so, do you rent the car first or go to Travel Guard first? Any other helpful comments will be appreciated. Judy

I rented cars in both Ireland and France through Auto Europe and was well pleased. While most credit cards don't provide insurance in Ireland, mine does so I declined CDW in both countries.

A "good car rental" is one that fits your needs.

I've always started by figuring out which cities work best in my itinerary for picking up or returning a rental car, then calling the rental agency to discover what is possible.

I suppose you could call first if that would help you plan.

I've used travelguard for my car rental. However, I never had to file a claim so I am hoping someone else will come forward and let us both know their experience. This time I am using CSA travel insurance, since Travel Guard no longer will sell car rental insurance in my state (Washington) I was told by one poster that I would have to pay up front and then get reimbursed by the Insurance Company. (I'm ok with that)

Car rental rates vary from town to town and from agency to agency in each town; so there is no best city. Search the web for rental agencies; then phone the ones you are interested in and ask about rates.

Read the comments from other car renters on this page. Then read the archives. Also read 'Driving Europe Crazy' section on this page. There have been lots of answers to your questions in the past.
