With the price of gas in France, and the high tolls from CDG to Bayeux, would it make more sense to take the train to Bayeux and rent a car there rather than rent on at CDG. Thanks

You're going to rent a car that day anyway so no extra expense there. It's about 175 miles and a small car will get forty per. Gas runs about nine bucks a gallon. Tolls will be around twenty-five dollars. If you want to mess with the trains and I drive, I can stop for lunch and still beat you, even if you have perfect connections.

I agree with Ed. The tolls in France really aren't that expensive. Use viamichelin.com to plot your routes and get estimated driving costs. It says the 175 mile journey will cost $54 assuming a diesel car.
