Car rental for Normany - Gare du Nord or Vernon (near Giverny)?

Four of us are heading from Paris to Normandy for three days in April, then going back to Gare du Nord for the train to Amsterdam. We want to visit Giverny on the way out of Paris our first day. We are staying in the countryside outside of Bayeaux so will need a car. I am trying to decide whether to rent a car roundtrip from Gare du Nord, or train to Vernon (near Giverny) and rent the car from there. Does anyone have experience or advice about either of these options? Thanks!

Getting out of town from Nord is a piece of cake (straight shot to the peripherique, four miles of it, and you're gone right up the N13/A14). With a car, you leave the freeway abeam Bonnieres and go straight in to Giverny. With the train, you have to get off at Vernon and make you way across the river and back south. Nord to Giverny is less than an hour by car. I have no idea what the train/bus/bike time would be. As long as you're having a Monet day, you might as well duck into Rouen as you continue north - - it's only about five miles off of the freeway.

Thanks Ed! Sounds like Gare du Nord it will be - that was my original thinking but I wasn't sure how hard it would be to navigate Paris - sounds pretty easy!
