We are traveling from Switzerland to Germany, renting a car on northern swiss border, and going to Fuessen. We are leaving the car there (Fuessen) and paying the drop off fee, and travling by train to Munich. Any tips?
Hi Don,
"Any tips"? What's the rest of your itinerary look like ? Are you going directly from Fuessen to Munich? Hard to advise... but with the little info you gave, I'd train from Switzerland to Fuessen, rent the car in Fuessen and drive to Munich. You not only avoid the drop off fee but the drive through this area is beautiful. There are so many places to stop and see along the way.... Tegelberg cable car and luge ride (Sommerrodelbahn), near Neuschwanstein, Wieskirche, Andech's Monestary, Bad Tolz (sp?), Benediktbeuern, etc.

It will cost a load of Euros to do that.
Border area: Waldshut - in Germany just across the swiss border from Koblenz - has a lovely old town center if you're near. Stein am Rhein is adorable. In between, visit Rheinfall in Neuhausen, Europe's biggest waterfall.
Best tip might be the train. You (2-5 people) can travel from the border - Waldshut, Schaffhausen - to Lindau with a Baden-Württemberg ticket for just 26 Euros. Lindau to Füssen on a Bayern ticket is about the same price. This compares favorably with car rental fees/gas/drop off charges and takes you through some lovely territory.
