I am going to Portugal for Easter. I might rent a car. If I do, which is the best company to use?
For the best prices, arrange for the rental before you leave the States. I have used AutoEurope and Kemwel. You can check their rental locations and prices online. Both of these companies are rental car brokers. They arrange your car rental with companies such as Avis, Hertz and Europcar. With AutoEurope, as opposed to Kemwel, I believe you can cancel your reservations without penalty. Check with them for their current policies. Again, you have to arrange for rental with them before leaving the States.
Use kayak.com as well and then pick the best deal. Nothing else matters.
I agree with Ed...pick the best deal. We almost always find the best deal with Auto Europe. I just get on their web site and do some playing around with pick-up and drop-off locations...Airport, rail, non- air and non- rail, pick up locs are important...drop offs are not. ) The differences in prices are amazing. But in Portugal we found the best deal renting from an outfit called Guerin. Check them out. Bring your GPS, and a small fold out Michelin map of the country. We found the roads to be just awesome; no traffic, and many were brand new.
