We have plotted out a loop starting and ending either in Paris or Frankfurt. A couple of weeks ago I saw a thread stating Germany was the most economical place to rent a car - but I obtained a quote from AutoEurope and received a better rate in France. Any thoughts, comments?
Germany is reputed to have the best rates but if you got both quotes through Autoeurope for the same car then France is obviously cheaper at least in this case. You may want to compare those rates with gemut.com. Just make sure you are quoted a rate for the same size car and that the quotes are in the same currency. Autoeurope and gemut will quote in U.S. dollars whereas dealing direct with a car rental company will probably be in Euros.
In checking their website, www.autoeurope.com, there is a listing of cities and their daily rental rates on the left. Frankfurt is $35/day whereas Paris is $31/day. Amsterdam is the least--$25. Recently, I also checked www.europebycar.com and they had the lowest rates--better than gemut.com. By the way, you can ask these companies to match a competitor's rate. They are more than willing to bargain, especially now with travel on the downside. Don't forget to ask for a free GPS. Good luck and have fun!
