I will be touring Costa Brava after a stay in central Barcelona (staying near Arc de Triumf). I would like to pick up a car near there, rather than go back to airport and rent there and then have to fight traffic going back through Barcelona. I can't find locations of rental agencies on web, except by searching agency-by-agency (a real pain). Anyone know if I can just walk around the Arc/Placa Catalunya area and bump into agencies? After the drive north I'll be back to Arc area for another 5 days. Thanks.
Since AutoEurope.com is a consolidator, one idea is to go to their website, put in your information and specify that you want to pick up the car Downtown (and maybe even the rail station). The next screen will give you your pick-up/drop-off options, including the addresses of some places where you can map them for proximity to your hotel. If you didn't want to book through AutoEurope.com, then Google the address and you should be able to figure out which car rental agency it is so you can book directly through them. Like I said, it's just one idea that would yield results of a list of places all at once instead of having to go company by company. When we rented in Barcelona, we picked up the car from the Sants rail station. I can't remember who the company was, but I do recall that they had a couple of rental companies working out of there. If I were doing this trip, I'd book the car in advance from home to ensure you get a reasonable price, are able to reserve the type of car you want, and don't have to waste time walking around trying to find a rental agency. Good luck!
Kayak.com and carrentals.com check multiple agences at the same time. You can, in fact, work both from kayak and it has a non-airport filter. Both will check autoeurope in the process and spit them out in cost order. Get it out of the way ahead of time, walking around wastes time and you're still back to the problem of having to hoof it while you compare agenceis. You won't get the car you pick, just one of the same class. Barcelona is easy to get in and out of - - going all the way out to the airport makes no sense. Plus there's probably an extra fee for an airport pick-up.
I remembered I rent an Avis Car in el Prat, but I returned it next to the port, on a Shopping Center, not far from Arc del Triumf. You must to ask Avis...
Thanks, everyone, but none of these suggestions worked. I had to look up every location, one by one, which took forever, and some of the maps were way off, so I'm just going to have to do it at the airport or train station. At least I know where THEY are.
