We will be in Cantabria for 4 days in Sept of this year. Staying in Santillana del Mar. What are the MUST see sights in the area, asides from the Altamira caves. Also, restaurant suggestions for the area are welcome. Than ks,

The town of Comillas, with its examples of Modernista architecture, including an early Gaudi house, was one of our favorites in the area. You can also visit a real (as opposed to the reproduction at Altamira) prehistoric painted cave at Puente Viesgo.

Drive south along the coast. Many great vistas to be found on the side lanes....and try an inland route as well. I was there last spring and enjoyed it greatly, but stayed in Santander. The caves are worth the visit.
