Hello Fellow Travelers, I am desperate for help. My traveling partner and I have found the perfect Paris apartment, now we cannot seem to make a payment via their bank secure website. I have contacted my bank Chase and I am told there is no problem on the US end. Has anyone had this problem? I am concerned with wiring 895E to Paris. Any suggestions are welcome? Thank you. Debbie

Good to hear you aren't wiring the money. If you haven't seen it on the General Europe page of this website there is a post that may be of help. There is a question posted "Websites for apartment rentals" there are a lot of companies listed there that should assist you in your quest of finding an apartment. I've used Airbnb, but not for Paris but on that thread there are some sites that people have used for Paris. I liked the company I used because they worked as the middleman, handling the finance aspect, once the apartment I rented was booked I was able to contact the owner directly for arranging on getting the keys etc.
So the apartment owner will accept a credit card but the transaction will not go through? And you advised Chase that you would be making a foreign purchase? They should be able to fix the problem.
If the problem with the payment is on the US end, why can't Chase get it straightened out? I use Chase Bank and my branch bends over backwards to provide great service. As an alternative: We did a Western Union wire transfer to a business in Italy (right from our local supermarket); the recipient simply goes to any Western Union near them and gives them the necessary code and identification, and picks up the money. Perhaps you can arrange this with the hotel. I doubt they want to turn away your business.
Are you trying to pay by credit card or by wire transfer?
DO NOT wire money via Western Union, any apartment rental that asks that is just a "no" in my book. Is this company well reveiwed and reputable?? BE careful. I would never send 895 euros off . I was pleased to use a company that did not require the full payment up front, and only asked for my own cheque in Canadian funds for damage deposit.
Agree with Pat totally, do not wire money. Ask Chase if they can tell you what problem might be and also contact the apartment company and see what they can do.
Thank you everyone. We are NOT going to wire money. Unfortunately we seem to be caught in a vortex. The banks say all is OK on their end. Ultimately we may need to move on and get another location. Thanks to all. Best regards,
Debbie
Go to elliott.org and look up phishing scams on vrbo and others for reasons not to wire money. Essentially, sometimes the apartment owner's email is compromised, and your emails are not going to the owner but to a scammer. They want money wired, or a prepaid visa card. The apartment owner is not the scammer and has no idea it's occurring.
