Cannes yacht show

I just discovered that there is a Yacht show in Cannes the day I was planning on going. Will this place be a zoo? Should I skip Cannes this time around? I really wanted to go for no other reason as to that I wanted to "see" it. If I skip it what else should I do with my day? I will be based in Nice and hopefully have already done the Eze and Monte Carlo trip. Already planning on Marseille and Cassis. Should I go further east to Italy for Gelato as another poster did? I will probably not be back to this area for a long long time if ever. This is a once in a life time trip.

This will be on a Saturday or Sunday. Flexible on which day to do things.

I second Bets' ideas of Menton or St Paul de Vence. Both also easily reachable from Nice by bus. ST Paul de Vence if you're interested in art and want to go a bit inland; Menton isfahan you want to be on the water (and to follow the corniches by bus as you will for the Eze/Monte Carlo day). Although come to think of it I think I ended up returning to Nice from Menton via train. . . .

One of the fun things to do in Cannes is marvel at the yachts that are in the harbor. I bet there's some good ones there during the yacht show. I imagine a few people will be there to shop for an "upgrade." And imagine the people watching! I love Cannes (I know it puts me in a minority on this board) and wouldn't hesitate to go for a day trip during the yacht show.

I wouldn't base your travel decisions on impressing people back at home, but rather having a great time yourself. If you think seeing the Yacht show would be cool and don't mind huge crowds, see it. Otherwise you have great recommendations.

For perspective, Miami, Newport, and Annapolis are the second, third, and forth largest yacht shows in the world. The value of the goods at Cannes is generally triple the combined value of the three runners-up.
