Cannes Film Festival

Has anyone ever attended the Cannes Film Festival or been there during the festival? Any suggestions on where to eat or any special money saving tips? I am attending for business, but will have some free time.

It is an absolute human zoo - albeit a beautiful one!! Can't imagine what it would cost to eat at any of the reat. during the fest. I was staying in Villefranche so went back there to eat. Sorry, not much help! It is easy to get to surraounding towns by train - it might be cheaper eating outside of Cannes. There are much nicer towns along the Cote d'Azur, Nice and Antibes have wonderful museums.

I have just arrived back from my business trip at the Cannes Film Festival. I actually did not find it as crowded or expensive as I expected. Most of my trip was spent in the area of the Old Port. Two of my favorite places to eat were: La Pizza, very near Hotel d'Ville - there may be a line to get in, but don't be fooled...it goes very fast as there are three floors. The menu is simple but very delicious and not too pricey. The second place was called Philcat - this was a very clean road side stand with lots of locals sitting around the back. It served delicious sandwiches (the bread was great) and really fresh salads. I also had a glass of Rose for 1,50 or 2,00 euros. There was no charge to sit and people watch, which was probably the best deal of all during Festival time!
