Canet en Rousillion

Hello, I am in the process of planning my first trip to France and had planned to spend a week in Paris and a week in a timeshare in Canet en Rousillion. I have so many people trying to talk me out of it because they said there is nothing to do in that area and said I should go to Provence. If anyone has been in the area, please advise. We will be going in late June.

I was there the first week of October last year, staying with my friend at her timeshare. IMO a week was about 3 days too long. There is really nothing do do in Canet besides go to the beach. The beach is nice, but the area is a bit tired and rundown, if you know what I mean. And the timeshare was a dump. We had a car and did day trips to Carcassone, Colliure and Banyuls-sur-Mer, and also took a drive to some villages southwest of Perpignan. If you have a car it would be easy to drive into Spain, or you could take the train from Perpignan to Barcelona. We started our trip in Barcelona so we didn't do that. There will probably be a totally different vibe there in June than there was in October. Will you be in Paris before or after Canet?

We almost rented a house in Canet a few years ago, then changed our mind. It did look like Canet wasn't worth spending time in, but there are some great wineries in and around the immediate vicinity. And Andrea's suggestions are very good. Collioure is beautiful, Banyuls is worth a visit and has great and quirky wines, and Carcassone is interesting. I'd give it a whirl.

Thanks for the tips. I'm thinking that perhaps we will cut our visit down to a few days. I was interested in taking a trip to the Dali museum in Figureres, Spain while in the area. Has anyone been there? Is it hard as an American to travel from one country to the other if we were to go into Spain from Canet en Rousillion?

Traveling from France to Spain is no different than going from NJ to NY. It is very easy.
