Canal du Midi

We are looking for a hotel or B&B to stay in on our wau between the Dordogne and Provence in May. We avoid larger towns and tourist traps like Carcassone. Has anyone stayed in any of the small towns on or near the canal? We want to go to Minerve also but Rick only lists one option there. Thanks for other options.

We would rather stay somewhere on or near the canal. I would like to hear from someone who has traveled in the area.

You may also like to try going to the book store and looking in a chapter for the area in LP or ROughGuide... look at a few and if you find more you can get that book. But its nice to just spot-check quickly for items not in ricks book (I always have an RG or LB book added to my RS books!). Also - check out the Lonley Planet discussion/region boards too as a back up... of even Frommers web site.

Marilyn, I'm going to Toulouse in 3 weeks for a boat trip down the Canal du Midi with friends. I will be staying beforehand at a Chambres d'Hotes in a small village called Villenouvelle, located on the Canal du Midi between Toulouse and Castelnaudary, called Maison Josephine http://www.chambresdhotesfrance.com/cgi-bin/hotels/jump.cgi?ID=1239. I've never stayed there before but would be happy to share my experience after I return mid-April.

I, too, am interested in this area. Please let us know how your canal trip goes. I am thinking of taking a bike tour of the canal area.
