I purchased two 1st class tickets from Vienna to Hallstatt through oebb Austrian rail and did not click the button for "reserve seat" (my mistake). So I have tickets with no reservations. Can I reserve seats at the station so that my wife and I can sit together? The tickets were discounted (with the clover leaf symbol - otherwise I would not have purchased 1st class tickets). My first guess is that a reservation is not necessary given how few people travel in first class. Second, you can a reservation at the train station. May be a fee for the reservation.

You can reserve seats after purchasing tickets. Go back to the Austrian Rail website and go through the ordering process. After clicking on the "cloverleaf" fare, pick "only reservations" (NUR reservierungen, in German). Note, the train from Vienna to Attnang-Puchheim is probably an express train. You can get reservations on it. The train(s) from Attnang-Puchheim to Hallstatt are regional, and probably not reservable. I agree with Frank. You can probably reserve seats in Vienna.
